Hello Lizzi DAHLING!
I agree with Zack, because their are good politicians. Look at Chris Van Hollen (if you don't know who he is.. go on google and WAKE UP), he's a very cool guy and very nice (I know. I met him... sorta... my brother worked for him.. 2 degrees of separation...). He is also a great politician. Look at Lincoln, FDR. Great presidents. Politicians can be good... they are just few and far between. If Chris Van Hollen ran for president, I would give him every penny I had.

I used spell check though I don't think you were yelling at me...

Oh, and one more thing about Anarchy and then I'll let it be. Take away the Hummer or the money, and you've still got the same person. Except now, their just jerks instead of rich.
}

Xaq(22:18):
{
Kevin didn't say money doesn't matter, he just said the mind is important too. Even with all the stuff we hear, the government is not an EVIL organization. The elected officials are elected by the population, which means there must be SOMETHING good about them. They do have some good intentions, and they do have some level of skill at what they do. Of COURSE connections help, Bruno, but no money can replace skill, and people know that, even greedy ones. I'm definitely not saying that noone EVER accepts a bribe, waht I'm saying, is basically that politicians are people too.

USE THE FUCKING SPELLCHECKER!!!!! You know who you are.
}

s.K(22:06):
{
bruno, you're wrong. if you really want to be president, you just have to work through the lower levels of politics first. start small and work up. to become anything else that is high-paying and important you have to do the same. to become a doctor you need to go through college and med school.

and bruno, THINK before you TYPE. I already said that about two or three posts ago. don't just jump into an argument when you don't know what's going on.
}

Bruno(18:51):
{
Hello lizzi
Kevin. NO, Just NO. Think about what your saying. Even the best candidate for president needs a lot of money. Why do you think that they have huge fundraising, to raise money for the hungry? HA! The world of politics is even less fair then the rest. It's not about being good at it. It's all about connections. Not that the connections have anything to do with being the best. The best doctor at the hospital may have had no connections, but it was a BITCH getting into medical school, and then that hospital he now runs. In politics you cant work top the top unless your ruthless and have money.
}

s.K(13:04):
{
hi lizzi.

A random person with no political connections has the same chance of being president as a random person with no medical connections being the best doctor in a hospital. that's just how things work. but, even if someone has all the connections and they have TERRIBLE political ideas, and no charisma at ALL, they probably wouldn't win. (unless there's a strange circumstance involving floirda)

hello it's lizzi and im here and joining you...hurrah

{
Sorry, what i meant is that even though any one can technically run, they have NO CHANCE of being elected president unless they meet one of the three criteria i mentioned.
}

s.K(15:20):
{
I agree with will, except that anyone CAN run. I think it is unfair that political families and rich families have more support than anyone else, but it's still possible for anyone to run for office. If your political views are good enough, you can work your way up. And, even though I think there is something wrong with how some families can have better chances, but I'm not sure what is so wrong with it. People who have parents who are doctors have a better chance of being a doctor because their parents have connections at medical school, it's the same thing with politicians. To become a doctor with no connections with the medical school is much harder than becoming a doctor with connections. Bush Senior just had good connections. I do think there's something wrong with that, but it's just human nature. You give your friends (and their children) better deals than you give strangers.
}

Recently i have been looking at a lot of essays and speeches and such from Common Dreams. I have found that i can agree with many of the ideas and opinions expressed there. Personally, i think that democracy could work, but only if certain things were the case. I think it would be necessary to have more than two political partys. From the views i express people tend to call me a democrat but right now it seems that the distinction between democrat and republican is only in the name. And dont tell me that there are more partys. I mean partys that have a real percentage of the vote. Another important change would be that ALL political campains be solely PUBLICLY FUNDED. In theory anyone can run for congressional or presidential office but in practice, you have to be really rich (ex: Arnold running for governer of california), come from a political family (ex: the kennedys, the bush family), or work your way up from the bottom of one of the big two partys (usually taking at least a decade or two to have a chance to be elected pres.). This is primarily because of the enormous amount of money it takes to finance a campaign. For democracy to work, everyone must have an equal chance to be an elected official, this means that campaigns should be equally funded(which is completely not the case now seeing as the pres. hopefuls are in the midst of the "fundraising campaign" just to raise enough $$ to run. And if you dont take part in the rabid fundraising, you dont stand a chance of being elected). Someone ( i dont remember who) said "Democracy is a horrible form of government. The problem is that all the rest are worse." ... yeah, i'll rant some more later...
}

Bruno(09:44):
{
No, the election is in 2004 and they take ofice in january of 2005. Bush has a good chance of wining because if you go to other states he is like a god for taking out the "lesser" government of Irac and inststing one of our own there. Anarchy, right. Anarchy is like comunissm without the money. Realy anarchy i senevitable at some point due to the realization that money is our savior and our destruction. Plus, in anarchy, I my self would remove people like Bush not only from power but also from the gene pool.

{
I have nothing against canada. ... because amelyne is too cool.
and the election is this year, the president goes into office in 2004 ... I think. and... reading... ok.

1. in anarchy, there would be no hummers because everything would end, everyone would have to fend for themselves, and no one would survive. the only people who would flourish would create small governments. we've already been through history, if anarchy worked all that well, we would have never formed governments.
2.Bush won't be reelected because the whole reason he won was florida, and that's not gonna happen AGAIN.

HAH.
}

Xaq(19:38):
{
But there won't be any hummer-driving rednecks, because there won't be any hummers! There won't be anyone with a big head about their money, becuase there won't BE any money! I'm talking like, REAL anarchy. Even if there was money, it wouldn't matter. It would make good people, or at least, smart people... I dunno.

I also don't know about Bush being reelected. He wouldn't have a chance if the Democrats were actually doing anything. But they aren't, and instead, Bush is just sitting all comfy in 1600 PA ave, getring settled fro another 4 years. Al Gore should have run, he would win if he did.
}

Nora(18:38):
{
Next presidential election is in 2004, next year Kevin and i wouldn't be so optimistic. Unfortunatly there are too many empty minded, hummer driving, redneck, "god bless america" conservatives out there to say he'll be gone next year... but here's hoping! You're right... maybe i'll move to New Zealand... or Wales... don't ask me why... i'd like to live on a giant fish...
}

s.K(16:21):
{
bush will be gone later this year, because there's another election. and there are european countries better than canada, too.

and emma... I don't really care what concerts you're going to... that seems like a personal thing that has nothing to do with an intellectual conversation about ... anything.
}

Zofia(14:28):
{
New topic kick butt concerts that I am going to...thus you are jealous

August 20th- RADIOHEAD!!!!!!

August 22nd- BJORK!!!!

mwahaha
}

Nora(11:31):
{
Kevin, why do you say he'll be gone later this year? As much as i would like it to be true...
And Zack, a country cannot survive on the goodness of people alone because, frankly, most people aren't good. Could we survive on the goodness of the people who elected Bush and drive Hummers? Could we survive on the goodness of the people who hold themselves above the rest of the world because they are American and have more money? Could we survive on the goodness of the people who support trying to take over the world? i think not.... but i do know one thing... i'm moving to Canadia
}

there are some problems with our government, but it is one of the best of the world. There probably are better ones, but ours is pretty good. ew have a bad president now, but ther still isn't widespread disease or famine, at least, not worse than the rest of the world. even tough there are some problems, and it definately could be better, it still is pretty good. And, we do have a bad president in power, but later this year he'll probably be gone.
}

Xaq(21:06):
{
But then you are placing the well-being of millions of people in the hands of a few, and there's no telling what kind of people those can be. Most people that are the kind of people that want to be president are just the kind that we wouldn't WANT being president. POLITICIANS!!!! Power hungry bastards...ok, some are ok, but they are few and far between. Maybe government is important but ours is kinda bad. Would you rather let have a few bad people be in control, or let noone be in control and instead depend on the goodness of people, which is actually a rather large thing?
}

s.K(20:59):
{
we need government or people will run around and kill eachother. you can't depend on the goodness of people to make socciety good, you need to control it or people will be bad. Communism doesn't work either, because you have to depend on the people to do all they can, and, again, you can't rely on people to make the world good without some control. So, you need some control, but not too much.
}

Xaq(20:55):
{
That's LAME, Kevin, DETAILS, MAN!!!!!!!! I think government is important because ____. FILL IN THE BLANK, DUDE!!!!
}

s.K(20:54):
{
I think government is important.
}

Xaq(20:52):
{
Ummm...how bout...ANARCHY!!!! Yeah, anarchy. I think anarchy is good. If you've seen Fight Club, you'll know what I mean. Project Mayhem was trying to send civilization into a premature dark age, in order to give the Earth time to heal itself. Which is a good thing. Anyway, what do you think about anarchy?
}

s.K(19:42):
{
we could talk about other stuff too, like uh... communication... like, what IS communication and what ISN'T communication.
}

s.K(18:36):
{
eh, it's ok, all my einstein friends are losers anyway (hope they don't read the blog...)
}

Xaq(17:46):
{
Lizzi is cool. I guess you can invite one or two Einstein people, Kevin, but like I said, you take care of their colors and such, and putting their name on that stripey list. Unless they can do it themselves, which wouldn't surprise me.
}

s.K(15:14):
{
who's lizzi?
}

s.K(15:13):
{
I think we can think of something better to talk about than books. how about abortion? I think that abortion is good and important because it should be the mother and father's choice whether or not there is a baby, not random chance or laziness. even if it is killing the unborn baby, that's better than the baby living a bad life and holding back socciety, or living a bad life and dying.
}

s.K(15:07):
{
I'm reading this weird book of short stories by Jorges Borges... it's ... weird
}

Zofia(14:19):
{
Hello everybody...How are you all today? Hmm, I think that we should start a discussion on what we've been reading this summer, so far for me I have read
The stranger by Camus, Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury, Deadeye Dick by Vonnegut, Balzac and the little seamtress by Sijie, Lolita by Nabokov...and right now I am reading/falling in love with A portrait of the artist as a young man by Joyce.

Long bike rides are also very fun in the sun.

Xaq(12:14):

OK, space monkeys, your homework for tonight is to go watch Fight Club. It's the best fucking movie I've ever seen, right up there next to The Matrix. Not only is it AMAZING, but it will definitely give us something to talk about.

Sorry for neglecting y'all, I've had an interesting and rather painful last two days. (If you don't know why, I don't want you to know, so leave it. [Either way, I trust all the member of this blog, so YOU guys will probably know, I just don't want to put it on the web.])

Anywho, I'm going to play devil's advocate. I'll probably argue with myself, so watch carefully, I might even beat the crap and thus get myself a promotion at my low-end desk job, right, Louis? I disagree (or at least, Satan, who I'm advocating does) with you Zofia (Do I really have to call you that? My sister tried to change her name to Rayne and I just kept calling her Sarah. Can't I do the same with you, seeing as you're my pseudo-sister?), I think that--oh, fuck it, I agree. I think you are shaped by your life experiences, in all areas, not just sexuality. I'm not even going to support that statement, because it's so obvious, but if you disagree, I'll gladly argue with you.
