Hola y'all----I hath returned from the depths of Luray Virginia to rescue your dark, dank, dreary and bad conversation.......sorta anyway, I agree with kevin, there are defenitely levels of AI---and I think that the ultimate level-----one in which it could love, then shutting off a computer would be akin to murder, much like the one in teh second renisssance, however, anything that cannot feel love is not truly human, and therefore is not really human

what is feeling? emotion?

if you're talking about how people can make unreasonable, arbitrary decisions, then you could just make a fancy random number generator and say that it's thinking. if you mean how people attach to other people and make friends, computers do that too, on a different level. They connect to some computers and not others, they just don't remember these encounters becuase they only remember what we make them remember and only do what we make them do. it would be possible to make a thinking robot that could change its own code, learn, and grow. but that would probably entail the end of organic life, it'd be like the matrix. the robot that we created would probably edit out the part of code that makes friends to increase efficiency, and then we would just have an army of ruthless, unpredictable robots.

Well, if robots could feel emotions and act upon their own free will, they are.. Well, not human,but in a sense they are. Thy are human "equals", they'd be smarter and stronger and such, but that is the same as our relation to animals. We may think were better, but were not, right?

No, Bruno, just no. Fuck, people, SAY SOMETHING WE CAN TALK ABOUT!!!! Ok want something done right, do it yourself. If there were an artificially inteligent computer, and it's programmed to have emotions, are those emotions real? If not, than what are our emotions? Aren't we just programmed by DNA? Has anyone seen/read 2001: A Space Odyssey? If you have, then you'd know what I'm talking about.

(please delete that post, Bruno)

(i mean the flick off one)

Actually, I was about to suggest we talk about artificial intelligence and free will and such, but affirmative action sounds good too. I guess the topic will just pick itself, though if you have a though about affirmative action, let it out, and we'll have no choice to respond, Kevin.

PS: OOOH, you know, we should get a comment service so people who aren't on the blog can make comments!!! Tell me if you like the idea, and I'll take care of it.

PPS: Does anyone know why the text got all big? It happened a while ago, but I think it just looks wierd, especially with our words big, and Kevin's tiny. Maybe you know, Kevin?

PPPS: Also we could give our posts subject lines, if y'all want. Again, your wish is my command.
}

super.KFinn(15:15):
{
affirmative action... we can talk about that.

}

zacky(23:01):
{
Of COURSE there's no superior being who put us here for a purpose, in FACT, there IS no determined purpose, but if you're looking for one, making other people's lives better is a damn good one, don't you think?
}

THE Te$$anator(21:10):
{
Doesnt it scare you in the least bit that we might just be another species...like all we mean to life is to just keep on producing more of us...I dont know....I just feel sometimes we are too smart for our own good and life is just gonna be one big rude awakening once we realize we might not really be superior and that we serve no better purpose than to keep popping out kids to carry on....maybe there isnt a meaning of life....maybe there is no superior being that put us here for a purpose....god damnit i dont want to serve some fricken purpose!!!!!! GAHHHH IM SO DEPRESSED RIGHT NOW.... will come back. now.
}

zacky(04:04):
{
The meaning of life is to make the lives of everyone around you better. What if you reproduce and don't raise it? Neglect or adoption? Of course, neglecting a kid won't make life for him better, so if you are serving your purpose, you won't. If someone dies a virgin, did their life have no meaning?
}

super.KFinn(00:15):
{
reproduction. all living things live to continue their ideas, beliefs, and genes. So, reproduction and education are the meanings of life. and they go together, because when you raise a kid, you teach him or her what to think.
