Innocence could be interpreted as bliss. But bliss also designates to me a state very different then happiness. I think of bliss as euphoric. Not really and truly contented....

Maybe whoever said ignorance is bliss really meant INNOCENCE is bliss. People long for childhood becasue they remember their innocence and the simplicity of everything. Also, isn't it possible that there is more than one bliss? ALSO also, maybe ignorance is bliss, and knowledge is more complex bliss? Zen masters who find bliss in meditation aren't ignorant, they are just at peace. Maybe innocence is just being at peace with everything.

PS: POSTING!!! People are posting!!! This gives me no end of joy. You guys rock!

PPS: Scott, post the URL for NationStates up here (I forgot it) so people can check it out.

PPPS: SHAGEE, YOU FAIL!!! Your un-involvement can be easily countered by you saying something that contributes to the conversation. Some people weren't around at the time, but a while ago we had this whole disscussion about what you can and cannot post up here and we came up with a few basic guidlines:
  • Every post has to have something to do with the topic at hand.
  • EVERY POST has to have something to do with the topic at hand.
That's pretty much it, other than basically don't be a dumbass. Stuff that doesn't involve the conversation should just go in a little section at the top or bottom of your post. Or whatever. It's flexible. Anyway, like I said, you rock, and keep the thoughts coming!

not at all, I find happiness in knowlege.......being blissful is very different from being truly HAPPY----- happiness does not = ignorance or vice versa

Speaking of Marketing, read the book Jennifer Government by Max Barry. It shows what happens if capitolizm goes too far.

yay look i'm participating!

this is what i wrote in response to alex's rant on his blog:

it depends on your definition of bliss. is bliss knowledge, or is bliss happiness? there's a big difference. in our world, at least, i often find that with knowledge comes the loss of happiness. which is why people are fond of their childhoods. because the biggest tragedy could be solved 2 minutes later with a lollipop. so really it depends on what you value more, happiness or knowledge. from your post, you obviously value knowledge.

basically, in my opinion the argument isn't whether knowledge is better than ignorance. it's whether knowledge is better than happiness.

it is a word jeff, but it is spelled immersed (i think) but yes, getting back to the lovely rant on my blog a few days ago about why knowlege is better then ignorance. Additionally, I must agree, once one can look at advertising objectively, it falls apart and does naught more then disgust a watcher

True, but it's possible to counteract that with knowledge. If you know what's going on you can make choices for yourself. It all comes down to free will. Saying we are bought and sold is only true when we are just products of the system. But when we start making OURSELVES, then we can be the ones doing the buying and selling. The system can't sell what the system doesn't own. And keep in mind what Maynard said:
"People have to follow their hearts, and if their hearts lead them to Wal-Mart, so be it."
Tru dat, brotha.
